Celebrations, conversations and connections on-campus

Students from Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Western Australia are learning how Baha’i holy day celebrations can provide the ideal space to engage in meaningful conversations and strengthen connections with friends both old and new.

During the Ridvan festival, when Baha’is all around the world celebrate the birth of the Faith and the time when Baha’u’llah declared His mission, the ECU Baha’i Society set up a special stall marking the occasion while also offering students on-campus the chance to learn more about the Faith

ECU Baha’i Society member Sonia said the celebration was based on a floral theme and included pot-planting and decorating, sweets, and an information stall where students could learn about the Faith and the Baha’i society.

“We had really good feedback about how students were able to sit down, have meaningful conversations with us, and do something relaxing to take away from the academic stress they might be going through at the moment.”

One of the students said the experience was “really special”.

“As I was painting I did get a little bit emotional because this week is a little bit hard for me,” she said. “Some of the others that were there came over to offer support. It was really nice to make that connection.”

Sonia said through the event, the Baha’i Society was hoping to make true and genuine friendships.

“Hopefully they’ll be able to join us in future events as well.”
