How Gold Coast’s active seniors are redefining community
GOLD COAST, QLD – In the Gold Coast, a vibrant and distinct network of senior citizens is demonstrating how wisdom, experience, and proactive fellowship can weave a rich, inclusive pattern of community life.
What began in May 2016 as a modest monthly coffee morning has grown over a decade into a dynamic hub of spiritual growth, mutual care, and outward-focused service.
Often attracting more than 20 attendees, these morning catch-ups feature guest speakers and presentations on a diverse range of topics.
Beyond study and consultation, the group’s vibrant energy overflows into meaningful service. Seniors actively participate in pastoral care – visiting community members in hospital, providing crisis support, and offering transport to medical appointments. Creatively, they host mindful colouring and art gatherings and compiled the e-book A Gift of God (1974–2024), documenting senior artistic contributions over 50 years.

The group’s focus extends well beyond its internal circles. Members actively engage with the Multi-Faith Action Advisory Group, frequently hosting meetings at the local Baha’i Centre. In another individual initiative supported by the local governing body of the Baha’i Faith, the Local Spiritual Assembly, the group regularly stocks the Gubbai Sacred Space and Chapel at the Gold Coast University Hospital with booklets, themed prayer pamphlets, and donated spiritual literature for patients and visitors seeking solace.

Through morning coffees, study circles, devotionals, creative projects, and heartfelt pastoral care, the Gold Coast seniors are proving that retirement age can be one of the most spiritually active chapters of life – fostering a true, resilient pattern of community life oriented around service.
