Social action initiatives thrive in Mosman Park

Community members in Mosman Park are working hard to tackle issues of isolation and loneliness, supporting one another through initiatives that aim to connect neighbours, the elderly, young and old using the Baha’i institute as the driving force.

With its residents inspired several years ago to establish the Mosman Park Sisterhood – a Baha’i-inspired initiative that brings together women of all ages and backgrounds in the locality – the community is now flourishing as a result of various capacity-building endeavours that aim to effect an individual spiritual transformation and empower individuals to contribute to their surrounds.

“There’s a growing group of youth in Mosman Park learning how we can better serve our community,” says one of the local youth. “I think something I found is the more we’re united in a group of people and working towards something allows us to be transformed.”

Another youth says the junior youth have been focusing on combatting the force of isolation that pervades the region. “It’s been a nice evolution of different ways of trying to meet that same learning objective whether it was just bringing neighbours together for a community afternoon tea and having elevated topics about what brings them true joy to having car washes that were set in one of the aged care facilities.”

With junior youth groups, children’s classes, study circles, community service projects, and the Mosman Park Sisterhood among the community-building efforts that contribute towards the healthy functioning of the locality, the community continues to embrace more and more individuals who are passionate about working together to bring about change in society.

“The key principle, the heart of it, is oneness of humanity. And when that happens, when we could say there’s no disparity, there’s no prejudice, there’s opportunities for equality between men and women …. I think the hope is having that oneness where this community becomes one big human family where everyone feels safe and connected,” says Mosman Park Sisterhood member Fariba Fanaian.
