Spirit of collaboration animates celebration of Twin Holy Days in Logan

LOGAN, QLD – Baha’is and their friends in the community of Logan have come together in a spirit of collaboration to prepare and host an inclusive and reverent program celebrating the Twin Holy Days of the Baha’i Faith. 

These Holy Days celebrate the births of the two founders of the Faith, the Bab and Baha’u’llah, and occur on consecutive days in the lunar calendar. 

In the lead-up to the events, many friends across the locality assisted with the planning of programs, decorating venues, preparing food, assisting with logistics, and extending invitations. This collaborative spirit reflected a community steadily growing in its capacity to organise uplifting spaces of worship and fellowship.

The birth of Baha’u’llah program was also attended by the Mayor of Logan. The Mayor warmly acknowledged the diversity and spirit of unity he observed within the Baha’i community, and he extended an invitation for the community to contribute to long-term city planning initiatives. His words about contributing to the benefit of the city resonated with those present, drawing on Baha’u’llah’s vision of a materially and spiritually prosperous world. 

A rise in capacity 

On the eve of the birth of the Bab, a local family hosted a community-wide celebration. Friends gathered for devotions, music, a social game, and shared refreshments. The hosts’ readiness to open their home and coordinate the evening demonstrated the increasing capacity of individuals to offer spaces that strengthen bonds of friendship and support the spiritual life of the community.  

The Thursday morning celebration of the birth of Baha’u’llah took place at a community centre. In previous years, the community would often host the celebration on a weekend if the Holy Day fell during the week. This year’s strong turnout on a weekday reflected a gathering confidence among the friends to align their community life more closely with the rhythm of the Baha’i calendar.

The program featured readings, music, a quiz, and an excerpt from Light to the World – a film about how the teachings of Baha’u’llah are having an impact on neighbourhoods, cities and towns around the world. The venue was thoughtfully adorned with artwork, books, flowers and greenery, creating a peaceful and inviting setting. 

Both gatherings were marked by joy, reverence, and a spirit of friendship. Their success was made possible by the loving service of many friends – from those who consulted and organised, to those who hosted, decorated, prepared food, or contributed to the program. The experience highlighted a community growing in confidence and capacity where individuals readily arise to support and enrich the collective life around them. 

The local governing body of the Baha’i Faith, the Logan Spiritual Assembly, expressed deep appreciation for the universal participation of the community and its friends, and for the spirit of unity that animated the celebrations. The gatherings offered a glimpse of the society-building power of the Faith in action, demonstrating how through shared acts of service and devotion, communities can strengthen the spiritual foundations of their neighbourhoods and foster a sense of belonging for all.
