Celebrating 40 years of community-building in Cockburn
The Cockburn Baha’i community has marked its 40 year anniversary, as well as 40 years since the formation of its local governing body, the Local Spiritual Assembly, with a special gathering focusing on the theme of the oneness of religion.
The Baha’i concept of the oneness of religion is based on the premise that the religion of God is one and is continually evolving. Each major religion represents one stage in society’s unfolding spiritual evolution.
Various quotations were shared from different faiths, with a presentation by children, and music offered by youth.
The Cockburn gathering was celebrated with members of local and state government, as well as friends involved in the community-building process.
Preparations for the celebrations took months, with Mayor Logan Howlett in attendance, as well as the Deputy Mayor, Council members, Member of Parliament Mr Yaz Mubarakai MLA, and other invited guests.
Recognising the significant milestone, Mayor Howlett started the program by expressing his gratitude and appreciation for the many contributions of the Baha’is of Cockburn in enhancing harmony in the community.
The program reflected on the history and development of the Baha’i community in Cockburn while looking forward to continued advancement in the social and spiritual life of the city.
The celebrations concluded with an exploration of what is currently happening in the community and plans for the future. Previous newspaper articles and photos of social action projects were on display, and participants were provided with the chance to engage in meaningful and uplifting conversations before being handed with a special gift to take home.
Members of the Cockburn Baha’i community work with neighbours and friends to contribute to the well-being and progress of society. From spiritual education for children and youth to formal study groups for adults, the activities are open to all those who desire to effect a transformation both in themselves and their surroundings.
