Members of Australia’s National Spiritual Assembly elected at annual convention
The nine members of the national governing council of the Australian Baha’i community, the National Spiritual Assembly, have been elected at the annual National Baha’i Convention.
Held at the Sydney Baha’i Centre of Learning, the convention brings together 95 delegates from across Australia to consult on community affairs, make recommendations and suggestions to the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Australia, and elect the members who will serve on the institution for the upcoming year.
The Baha’i election process gives each delegate freedom to vote confidentially for those of his or her own choosing among all the adults of the national community. It is a democratic process that is sacred and dignified, free from nomination or campaigning.
Again I earnestly appeal to every one of you, and renew my only request with all the ardour of my conviction, to make before and during the coming Convention yet another effort, this time more spontaneous and selfless than before, and endeavour to approach your task—the election of your delegates as well as your national and local representatives—with that purity of spirit that can alone obtain our Beloved’s most cherished desire….1
Shoghi Effendi
The members elected to serve on the National Spiritual Assembly for the upcoming year are Shayan Ta’i, Kia Manouchehri, Natalie Mobini-Kesheh, Reena Torabi, Christopher Heggie, Lalomilo Tauveve, Anton Jones, Fiona Scott, and Saloomeh Mohebbaty.
Each of the incoming members was gifted with a handmade lei of chocolate parcels, created by a Pasifika family in Mount Druitt as a sign of respect and as a symbol of their appreciation for this institution.
