Renovations to Baha’i Temple make marked progress
MONA VALE, NSW – Restorations to the Sydney Baha’i House of Worship continue to progress in earnest as part of the Dayspring of Light project, with excavation for landscaping and surrounding fountains having now commenced.
The project – dedicated to the restoration and beautification of the Temple and surrounding gardens – commenced in May 2026. Initial work included the building of fences to protect public and adjacent bushland and the removal of existing plants.
The last of the trees and plants were removed in mid-May for safekeeping and will be replanted next year. Three sets of stairs were also demolished prior to the demolition of the next three sets of stairs, minimising structural risk to the building.
During June, trenches were dug for the installation of below ground services. “When the demolition of the steps was complete, it rained for about a week, and we lost six working days,” says Paul Toloui-Wallace, special projects.
Reinforcing steel installation is underway before the placement of the concrete landscaping paths and fountains and other garden features, which will be clad in sandstone. Similarly, for the foundations below the Temple stairs. “Currently prefabricated walls are being installed to be ready to support a concrete slab forming the podium at the top of the stairs,” Paul says.
In July, a temporary marquee was erected on the Temple grounds so that regular services can continue while the Temple is undergoing renovations.
