Convention video showcases sacred nature of Baha’i elections
The National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Australia has released a special video showcasing highlights from this year’s National Baha’i Convention while providing a glimpse into the sacred nature of Baha’i elections.
The convention brought together delegates from across Australia who had earlier been elected in their respective district or “unit” conventions across the country, providing an opportunity for each to carry out their sacred task of voting for members of the National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Australia in a joyful yet reverent atmosphere.
Delegates also consulted upon and shared insights into the various social transformation endeavours underway across Australia, with the convention also providing the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the past year and look to the year ahead.
“It’s been so inspiring to be in this space and to hear the learnings and the insights from the delegates all across Australia,” said one observer. “It’s special for everyone to be able to come to convention and to hear of these developments.”
Another participant said what stood out was “the concept of groups of families and how in every community there’s a growing number of friends who are coming together in their natural settings and learning to read the reality of the friends that they’re serving.”
The election of the National Assembly follows the basic Baha’i electoral procedures: There is no nomination or campaigning, secret ballots are used, electors consider moral character and capability, and those women and men who receive the most votes are elected.
