Edith Cowan Baha’i Society receives accolade for contributions to university life
The Baha’i Society of Edith Cowan University (ECU) in Western Australia has been recognised for its contribution to university culture, receiving the 2024 Activities and South West Club of the Year award.
The Baha’i Society was launched about two years ago after one of its members attended her first-year at the Institute for Studies in Global Prosperity (ISGP), a program devoted to exploring concepts giving shape to humanity’s search for global peace.
“Soon after its inception, there was a core team made up of both domestic and international Baha’is ready to devote their time and energy into weekly meetings and frequent events to share the aspects of the Baha’i faith with ECU’s students,” the ECU Baha’i Society vice-president says.
Over the past year, the society, which is made up of a small group of students studying different degrees, has prepared and executed many events. These have included Baha’i holy day celebrations, Ridvan pot-plant decorating, cookies and convos (a meaningful conversation event), Naw-Ruz and Harmony Day, Interfaith devotionals, and several guest talks.
“The team combined their efforts in making many visual posters, banners, resources and signage that have made our events both visually appealing as well as informative.” As a result of their events, a Ruhi Book 1 study circle has also emerged from the Baha’i society, complemented by games nights and Baha’i-inspired deepening evenings. “Guests are treated to generous hospitality and friendship.”
The ECU Baha’i Society aims to connect students with other peers who aspire towards unity and ultimately world peace by creating uplifting and inspiring environments and events that aid in the students’ intellectual pursuits by promoting a culture of learning.
The Baha’i society says receiving the Activities and South West Club of the Year award was a blessing.
“We were blessed to receive an award of recognition from the university guild.”
