Social Action
Baha’i social action efforts seek to promote the social and material well-being of people of all walks of life, whatever their beliefs or background. Such efforts are motivated by the desire to serve humanity and contribute to constructive social change.
Whether modest or more complex in nature, these efforts tend to emerge out of growing collective consciousness, and are carried out by a group of individuals who are passionate about effecting change in their neighbourhoods through the application of the Baha’u’llah’s teachings. Initiatives may be related to a variety of fields including health, sanitation, education, agriculture or environmental protection and aim to improve some aspect of the life of the local population.
While some social action efforts are short-term and of a fixed duration, in a few cases, those engaged in grassroots social action are able to extend the range of their activities in an organic fashion, with their efforts evolving into projects of a more sustained nature and with an administrative structure.
In this collection, we showcase the social action endeavours unfolding across Australia, in neighbourhoods, cities and schools everywhere, as people of all ages rally together to make a change to the conditions of their surroundings.
“ Be anxiously concerned with the needs of the age ye live in, and centre your deliberations on its exigencies and requirements. ”
Baha'u'llah
