Brisbane songwriting workshop explores the blending of ‘earth and heaven’

A group of artists from across Queensland have come together for a songwriting workshop in a bid to explore the Writings of the Baha’i Faith, allowing a medium for expression, creativity and collaboration.

“The idea behind it was not to create something refined or perfect,” said participant Tom Francis, “it was just to come up with a form, a melody, that we could then infuse with spirit.”

Divided into separate groups, the artists created a number of musical pieces based on different excerpts from the Baha’i Writings which they then presented back to the entire group. Some have gone on to formally record their works

“This idea of blending earthly music with heavenly music [has] been really interesting to me as an artist, to see music in a different way that it’s not just a form, it’s a form that can be imbued with spirit,” Tom said.
